Ken Stabler was nicknamed the snake because he could slither out trouble. He led the Tide to a 28-3-2 record as a player in Tuscaloosa. He also started at quarterback in ’66 and Alabama went 11-0

 

 

 

 

John Hannah was regarded as one of the best college offensive linemen ever to live. He was named All-SEC twice in ’71 and ’72. He also lettered in track and wrestling in his four years in school.

 

Shaun Alexander was named the 1999 SEC player of the year award. He finished 7th in the Heisman Trophy voting that year. He had 50 rushing touchdowns in his career at Alabama. He now plays in the NFL for the Seattle Seahawks.

 

 

Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant coached the Tide up until 28 days before his death of a heart attack. He also became the winningest coach in college football with 323 wins. Coach Bryant also coached at two different colleges before Alabama, such as, Kentucky and Indiana.

 

Antonio Langham was the first and only winner of the Jim Thorpe award. He was also named MVP in the SEC inagural game in 1992. The 27 yard interception return for a touchdown sealed the deal for the Tide after a 28-21 victory over the Florida Gators.

 

Derrick Thomas had an awesome talent for sacking the quarterback. He also earned himself the reputation as one of the country's most feared players. He won the Dick Butkus award for 27 sacks in one season.

 

Ozzie Newsome was a terror as a receiver (he averaged 20.3 yards a catch). He was a double threat, people say, because he could catch the football and he had an amazing talent for blocking. He also won the Lineman of the Year award.

 

Bart Starr was an excellent student as well as a star on the football. He would go on to play for the Green Bay Packer sand won Super Bowl 1&2. After his long NFL career he would retire and later be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

  Lee Roy Jordan was a captain on the 1962 team and was a finalist on the Heisman List. Jordan had an amazing 33 tackles that season and MVP and praise from the "Bear".
