      Over half of the people in the country earn a living by farming. Many of there people work on different plantations or they raise cattle. The plantations are used and made to make food and grow food. Costa Rica relies a lot on their coffee, sugar and cocoa.

 
     At one time Costa Rica seemed to be set to grow rich with bananas trade .Until one day a disease struck one of their banana plantations. Now their banana trade has been reduced.

 

              Cocoa was the very first crop to ever be grown in Costa Rica. It is a source of chocolate. Costa Rica , by itself, produces around 4,500 tons of cocoa each year. Most of the the cocoa is produced in the Puerto Limon area. The picture of cocoa on the left is in the process of being sorted and inspected. Some of the best pieces will be used to make different kinds of chocolate candy.
 

  This is a picture of coffee beans. All of the coffee beans must be picked by hand. These ones are being picked because they are just about ripe. After they are done picking them they will also go through phases by many machines. They have been creating the coffee plantations to be larger and larger over the years.
