Gymnastics

Lots of people can do gymnastics.  It does takes many years to learn.  toddlers can even participate by pointing their toes and stretching their muscles.
On the floor exercise you must show good technique.  You toes must be pointed.  You also must have a near perfect body line.  You must have a balance of tumbling and dance in your routine.
The hand stand is a very important skill in gymnastics.  It is part of every boy and girl event.  You must be absolutely straight and you must also be balanced.  You cannot let your back curve in competition.  It is considered bad technique.
The cartwheel is a very basic move in gymnastics.  You can do a left handed cartwheel or a right handed one.  Your legs have to be straight and your toes must be pointed.  You have to spread your legs out so you are doing an upside down middle split.
The vault is also called a horse.  It is a padded wooden figure.  It is 3 ft., 7 inches high.  You must jump on a spring bored to get enough height.  You also have to get a running start.
The still rings are in a circular shape, made of wood or fiber glass.  The rings are 1 ft, 7 inches apart.  They hang 8 ft. 3inches off the ground.  You must show strength.
The uneven parallel bars are two bars slotted into two steel uprights.  One bar is 7 ft., 6 inches off the ground.  The other is 4ft., 11 inches off the ground.  You must move in a continues flowing motion of  swinging and circling.
Originally the balance beam was made out of wood.  The moment the gymnasts feet leave the ground called a mount.  The gymnast must also do a dance on the beam. When they get off the balance beam it's called a dismount.
This is the first gymnast move you will learn.  You can call it a roll or a somer Sault.  It can be done forward and backward.  You put your hands on the floor and push your legs over your head.
The round off is the main skill that eventually led into back hand springs and tucks.  You do a cart wheel but half way through you bring your feet together and then you land like that.
You can do a hand spring forward or backward.  You push off with your feet, swing your arms, and jump backwards.  You keep your feet together and you must keep your back straight.
A front tuck is when you do a somer salut with no hand.  You have to get a running start.  Jump forward and tuck your body.  Then land with your feet together standing up straight.
