Walter Payton was born on July 25, 1954 in Columbia Mississippi. He went to Columbia High School. He was a star running back in high school. Colleges from all over offered him scholarships. Walter wanted to stay close to home and play for Jackson State in Mississippi. He broke every rushing and scoring record at Jackson State. He scored 113 TDs there. He scored 66 of them his sr. year which was an NCAA record. Then he got drafted to the Chicago Bears in the first round of the 1975 draft. He played for the Bears from 1975-1987 and then retired. He was the all-time leading rusher with 16,726 yards at that time. Then in 1993 he got inducted into the Hall Of Fame. | |
| Gale Sayers was born May 30, 1943 in Wichita, Kansas. He went to Central High School in Omaha Nebraska. Sayers has always been a brilliant athlete. His family was so poor him and his brother eat sparrows that they shot down with BB guns. Later when he was in high school he lead the city twice in scoring. One reason was that in a local restaurant if you scored a TD you got a certificate for a free hamburger. Later he had several scholarship offers but chose Kansas. Sayers was an all-American running back his jr. and sr. year. He set a single game Big 8 record by rushing 283 yards against Oklahoma State. When he graduated he got drafted by the Bears. His rookie year he was second in running backs behind Jim Brown. Sayers had 867 yards and an NFL record with 22 TDs. Sayers only played for seven hyears and retired in 1971 and was in the top 5 every year. |

O.J. Simpson was born July 4, 1947 in San Francisco, California. He went to high school at Galileo High School. O.J. stands for Orenthal James. It later became Orange Juice or Juice. He had a bone disorder and had to wear braces for years. He had the skinniest legs in the neighborhood but they were the fastest. He scored more TDs than anyone else in history at Galileo High. After high school he went to a jr. college then got transferred to USC. In his senior year he won the heisman trophy. O.J. was drafted number 1 in the 1969 draft to the Buffalo Bills. He was the first AFC running back to gain over 1000 yards. He retired in 1979 and gained 11,236 yards in 11 seasons. He was great. | |
| Barry Sanders was born July !968 in Kansas. He went to North High School. During his jr. year season he led the team in TDs. Barry set a school scoring record as a senior but scouts ignored him because he was small. He got two offers and went to OSU. He set a major-college football's single season rushing record with 2'553 yards and scoring record with 34 TDs. As a jr. he won the hesiman and skipped his senior year to go in the draft. He was picked third to the Lions. He won the rushing title in 1990. More important he led his team to the playoffs. In 1994 he won the rushing title again by gaining 1,883 yards, 4th best in NLF history. The won the title again in 1996. He was the smallest but one of the best rushers in NFL histoy. |

Tony was born April 7, 1954 in Pennsylvania. He went to Hopewell High School. His sr. year he got 1,244 yards and 23 TDS. Then he went to Pitt. During his sr. year he led his team to the national championship, and won the heisman. In 1977 he got drafted by the cowboys and them got traded to Denver even after leading them to 2 super bowls. | Emmitt was born May 15, 1969 in Florida. He went to Escambia High School in Pensacola, Florida. He gained 8,804 yards. He gained 4,232 yards in 3 years at the university of Florida. Then he got drafted by Dallas the 17th pick. He was MVP in the super bowl victory over buffalo. In 1995 he had the most TDs with 25 which was a record. Now he holds the record for the most rushing yards. |
