Chautauqua New York

The Miller Bell Tower is so loud that no matter where you are in the Institute, you can hear it, it sounds at every half hour and hour.  Like a lot of things in Chautauqua, it was named after John Miller.  On most of Chautauqua’s merchandise, it shows either bats or the Bell Tower which means it is a main location in Chautauqua.

The Athenaeum is the first building and the first hotel to have electricity.  It is the biggest building in the Institute. It has two sections, the hotel and the dining hall, which is is extremely expensive.

The Tally Ho is a hotel and a restaurant.  The owners made the attic into two apartments.  This is where we stay.  The rooms are a lot bigger than the other rooms in the hotel.

The lecture hall is where  people discuss topics.  even though mostly important people will speak sometimes regular citizens will speak. They will discuss  education, sciences, and the environment.  They also discuss important events.

The amphitheater is the most popular place.  Every week a band or talent group or something of the sort will perform .  4,000 seats are filled most of the time, sometimes even more.  A lot of the time, famous older bands perform there and they are heard all over Chautauqua.

Thomas Edison sometimes went to Chautauqua and thought of a lot of inventions.  He made electricity and put it in the Athenaeum.  Thomas Edison would stay in his father’s cottage, but it was known as his.  He really liked Chautauqua and went there a lot.
