Labrador Retrievers

Labrador Retrievers are also known as Labs, and there are two types of Labs.  There are American and English Labs.  Although they have different names they are a lot alike.  These dogs are very solid and muscular dogs.  They have short water resistant fur and they love to swim.  Labs are great family dogs and are great with kids. 

History

Labs are originally from New Foundland, Canada and were used to jump into icy waters to bring fisherman nets to shore.  Las have been one of the best family dogs for centuries because they’re loving, gentle, and easily trained.  Labs are also great for people who are blind because they are great lead dogs. 

Sizes and Colors

Labs are usually 22-24 inches tall.  Their weight can very, but most Labs weigh from 60-100 pounds.  Labs can be very big or very small depending on their gender and their parents. 

Fun for Labs

Most Labs do like water and love to swim.  You can also teach them to play fetch and tug-a-war.  Labs do Eat a lot, so they need a lot of exercise to avoid becoming overweight. 

Grooming Labs

Labs have smooth, short fur so they are easy to groom and brush.  They should be brushed regularly and only bathed when needed, because they cannot get knots. 

Temperament

Labs are great dogs and are commonly known as guard dogs or watch dogs.  They are also easily trained, and are very patient.  They are also great with all people, especially kids.  Labs also love to run and play outdoors.  If you keep them in the house too long they won’t be happy and they will get into trouble because they need exercise.
