David Beckham is probably the most popular soccer player in the United States.  David was born May 2, 1975 in London, England.  He began playing soccer on

his local youth team when he was seven years old.  When he turned fourteen, David signed a contract with Manchester United in the Premier League.  Then, in 1993, he became a midfield for Manchester United’s professional team.  The following year he helped the team win the Premier League Championship.

David Beckham was married July 4, 1999 at Luttrellstown Castle to Victoria Adams.

Victoria (Posh) was previously a spice girl in the popular pop group.  Today they have three young sons.  The oldest son, Brooklyn Joseph Beckham, was born March 4, 1998.  Their second son, Romeo James Beckham, was born September 1, 2002.  Cruz, their third son, was born February 20, 2005.  Brooklyn seems to have inherited his dad’s soccer skills.  Brooklyn plays on the local youth soccer team and has scored many goals.

Most of you have probably seen the movie “Bend It Like Beckham.”  David Beckham is known for “bending” the ball.  David can kick the ball so

it curves through the air and the goalie cannot tell where it is going to land.  David also has won many awards such as the 1997 Union of European Football Association’ Best Midfielder.  He has also won the 1999 Union of European Football Most Valuable Player and the Sports Writer’s Association’s 2001 Sportsman of the Year.  In 2000, David became captain of England’s national soccer team.  David has played with Manchester United’s team for thirteen years, and during that time his team won six Premier League Championships.  Recently, however, he signed to join the L.A. Galaxies.  Obviously, he has a long road ahead of him.
