The dogs that are trained to hear assist people who are deaf or that are hearing impaired. The dogs jobs are to serve as their owners ears when they are given a signal their owners to the ordinary household sounds they might not be able to hear. The common sounds that the dogs are trained to respond to include a knock on the door, a chiming bell, an alarm clock, and the telephone ringing. The dog is also trained to alert to an outdoor sounds such as a siren, honking of a cars horn, or shouts by jumping on or standing in front of its owner. |

The training for dogs with the deaf is hard. The hearing dogs have been alerting people with hearing impairments for more than twenty-five years. The very fist organized effort to training the hearing dogs began in 1974. Their was a deaf women who came to a kennel in Lake Elmo, Minnesota.
