In jazz dance, costumes play a big role
in the dance. The costumes are what give the dance a little more flair.
The costumes that these dancers use, also help tell the story behind the
dancing. Jazz dance costumes however, are in most cases, more sparkly
and, [with feathers some of the time] more feathery than ballet
costumes.

Like pairs in ballet, there are pairs
in jazz dances, too. To dance in pairs, in jazz, it sometimes involves
wearing tappy shoes, which gives the pair dancing a little more piazza.
Just like in ballet, you have to be able to work well with your partner,
to have a better performance.

Back in the day, Jazz dancers normally
would start with acts that did use any words. Examples of these acts
would be jugglers, acrobat or animal acts. There is a specific name for
these types of acts, called “Dumb Acts”. Because these acts do not have
a dialogue, the noises of late-comers could disturb the acts that are
performing. These acts also made the audiences of the shows, relax and
enjoy the show better.
