The Who and The Beatles

Band Information

The Beatles were always one of the most well liked bands. They have even gotten a word added to the dictionary, “Beatlemania.” The definition for Beatlemania is: a high level of interest in the rock-and-roll band, the Beatles, which came to popularity in the 1960s. They formed May 1960. They officially broke up in 1972, but they did many solo things individually. John Lennon was assassinated in 1980 and George Harrison died of Cancer in 2001.

Band members

  John Lennon

John Lennon was probably the most well liked Beatle. He played guitar and sang with Paul McCartney. He was a huge influence for Americans who were against the Vietnam War. At 10:50 P.M. on December 8, 1980, Mark Chapman shot Lennon 4 times at point blank range. Although he was rushed to the hospital, John was pronounced dead on arrival. His assassination caused mass sorrow all over the world.

  Paul McCartney

Paul McCartney was the lead singer for The Beatles. He was very gifted at singing. He was the first to leave the group in 1971. He released many singles. After releasing his singles he created a new band “Paul McCartney & Wings.” Wings formed in 1970 and broke up in 1981. In the beginning of the Beatles, John and Paul got along very well. But then after The Beatles broke up, both of them despised and even hated each other. But then as the years went on, John and Paul became close friends again.

  Ringo Starr

Ringo Starr was the drummer for the Beatles. His real name is Richard Starkey. Ringo was the first of drummers to really accept that he should just play the music and not get too out of control. Practically the opposite compared to Keith Moon. Before him drummers were really noticed for their soloing ability. Not the background music. But he was the least talked to out of the Beatles. Entire recording sessions would go by and not one word would be said to him from the other Beatles.

  George Harrison

George Harrison shared the role of lead guitarist with John Lennon. The Quarry Men (The original Beatles) wanted him because of his growing skill as a guitarist even though he was 3 years younger than them. George was the first Ex-Beatle to get a number one single and number one album. His death was from Cancer. It started in his lungs, but then moved to his brain, killing him. He finally made peace with Paul McCartney resolving decades of hate and hurt feelings. He died November 29, 2001.
