Classic
|
There are many memorable movies from over the years. Some that are “classics” are Grease and Titanic. Grease is a musical about the life of some high school seniors from Rydell High. Titanic is a true story about a fatal shipwreck. So why are these movies so popular and considered classics? Its because a classic movie is remembered by generations of people, is still well-liked many years after it was made, and people can feel connected to the plot and both of these movies accomplish these requirements. |

Comedies
|
Comedies are probably the largest category in movies. Many Americans love to laugh and that’s what comedies are all about. There are different kinds of comedies but most recent and popular movies have been romantic-comedies, dramatic-comedies, or just a mix. Click is a movie in which Adam Sandler can pause, rewind, fast-forward, etc. his life. It’s a very popular movie and has just come out on DVD. A clip of the movie is pictured above the other two pictures. Hitch and She’s the Man are both romantic comedies. Hitch stars Will Smith. In this movie, he helps people find dates until the girl he loves finds out about this “job”. She’s the Man stars Amanda Bynes and in the movie, she pretends to be her brother so that she can play soccer. Most comedies are popular with many people and are well-liked. |

Action
|
Action movies are past-paced, heart-stopping movies that thrill-seekers love. Two examples of action movies are Pirates of the Caribbean II: Dead Man’s Chest and Bad Boys. In Pirates of the Caribbean, a pirate, an elegant woman, and a blacksmith team up, backstab, love, and help each other. Pirates of the Caribbean can appeal to men and women. Bad Boys is more appealing to guys. In this movie, two detectives protect a murder witness while investigating a case of stolen heroin. Both are exhilarating from beginning to end and many people love them for just that reason. | |

Some examples of Horror movies are the “Saw” movies and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. A horror movie makes you want to scream because you’re so terrified and they’re supposed to be well…horrifying. The saw movies are well-liked but Saw II is probably the most popular. In this movie, Jigsaw locks a few unlucky people in a booby-trapped shelter and they must find a way out before they inhale too much of a certain gas and die. But they must watch out because there are also traps in the shelter that could kill them just as easily. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a movie in which a group of friends passing through are stalked and hunted down by a deformed killer. This killer has a chainsaw in order to feed his family who can only afford to eat what (or who) they kill. Both of these movies are pretty scary and are great movies to watch on Halloween! |

| Many romantic movies are in a category called romantic-comedy. However, there are also great movies that are just plain romantic movies. These “chick flicks” are usually more popular with girls rather than guys but most people like them at least a little. A classic example of a romantic movie is Sweet Home Alabama, where Reese Witherspoon plays a country girl that moved to the city. But she finds out “sometimes, what you’re looking for is right where you left it." In Just My Luck, Lindsay Lohan is the luckiest girl ever until she kisses the un-luckiest boy ever. In this romantic comedy, Lindsay tries her hardest to win her luck, and this boy, back. |

Children’s movies are sweeping the nation. Many of these movies are animated to let kids imaginations go to work. Some examples of great Children’s movies are Cars, Shrek, and Madagascar. Cars is about talking cars. The main car, a hot-shot race-car named Lightning McQueen, gets waylaid in Radiator Springs. This is where he finds the true meaning of friendship and family. Shrek is about a big, green ogre who lives in a forest. In Shrek I, the monster finds a friend in a talking donkey and together, they meet Shrek’s true love. Madagascar is about talking animals who, together, break out the zoo in which they are kept and explore what real life is like. All of these movies are very popular with children and their parents for the lessons they teach. |
