The Shetland Sheep-dog has been called a modern-day ‘super dog’.  The Sheltie is one of the most popular breeds in the world. For hundreds of years the Sheltie has herded livestock in its native Shetland Islands. It is rarely required to tend flocks today. The Sheltie is originated from hearty sheepherding dogs native to the Shetland Islands off of the Scottish coast.

For the food requirements, try to serve your puppy his meals at the same time each day. Also have it in the same location, so that he will get used to it as a daily routine. Make sure you don’t feed your dog “human” food, so he won’t get used to eating it. Make sure to keep a variety of foods and a well balanced diet. These are some tips for food requirements.

There are many things a dog will need. Dogs need to chew, so he will need lots of toys and bones. It will need a bed, a food and water bowl, a cage, a pooper-scooper, a leash, and a collar. All these things will be needed for sleeping, eating, playing, and walking.

The Shetland sheepdog is a very trainable dog. The main training is bladder issues, barking problems, and bad behavior. When you are teaching a dog tricks and training, always use short words so it is easier for it to stay in the dogs mind. For bladder training, put sheets of newspaper down for the dog to relieve himself there. One thing you never want to do is to physically hurt the canine. You need patience with the dog for all the training to be successful.
