| The Steelers have had a pretty good franchise since the super bowl has started with a record of 309-242, 26 playoff appearances, and 6 super bowl appearances and won 5 of them and is tied for the most super bowl wins. Although there has been all of that, the Steelers franchise has had only two coaches. The coaches’ names were Bill Cowher and Chuck Noll. Each of the coaches have been great as they both have had incredible records as coach and have had one of the longest coaching tenure as coach. For Chuck Noll, he is well respected and is now in the Hall of Fame. For Bill Cowher, he has been well respected, but he has had a gorilla on his back because of his playoff issue. He can always coach the team into the playoffs, but he could never coach his team to win a super bowl. But recently in Bill Cowher’s career, he finally won a super bowl in February of 2006. In this off-season (the 2006 off-season) Bill Cowher’s 15-season era has come to an end as he has retired from the Steelers. In this same Steeler off-season, The Steelers hired a new coach and his name is Mike Tomlin. Mike Tomlin was a defensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings and he is only 34 years of age. Now, only the 3rd coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Mike Tomlin will try to start a new era as a head coach. The Steelers have had the fewest coaches in the NFL and are looking to continue that with Mike Tomlin. |
