A cartwheel is one of the most basic types of gymnastics. In order to do a cartwheel you must lunge forward with your dominate leg. Then you put your hands on the ground and kick your legs into the air. You rotate your upper body until your feet touch the ground. You will land in a lunge. Then, put your feet together with your hands up. |

A backbend is a little tougher than a cartwheel. You need to have good muscles. For beginners, you start out on the ground. Then you put you hands backwards beside your ears. Finally you push up into a backbend holding yourself up in the air with your hands and feet. To come down you tuck your head towards your chest and ease yourself down with your hands. |

A handstand is one of the most important skills. For almost everything in gymnastics, your body takes the shape of a handstand. To do a handstand you simply stand in a lunge. Push off with your back leg, making sure the dominate one is in the front. Then kick your legs up into the air, while squeezing your legs together. Also, you have to make sure that your hands are sturdy. If you feel like you’re falling make sure to tuck your head to your chest and roll. |

A split is one gymnastic skill that you really must stretch for. Make sure your legs are warmed up and that you’re very flexible. To do a split you simply slowly slide your legs out. Then you will continue sliding down until your legs are totally on the ground or as far down as you can possibly go. |

This gymnastic skill is the round off. A round off is the main skill that leads into backward tumbling combinations. To do a round off, you start with your feet together. You then take somewhat of a little leap. You land with both hands on the ground at the same time. You move continuously from one side then up to a handstand. Coming down on the opposite side you started. Then proceeding to landing with both feet on the ground together with your hands up. |
| This would be a front walkover. You start facing forwards. Then put both hands on the ground in front of you, push with one leg. Then in the air your legs don’t touch, it goes one then the other. Then the leg that you started with will touch the ground and you’ll stand up with your other leg stepping down after. |
