Punk rock has been very important to the history of music and rock and roll. Punk was born in a time of economic hardship and repetitive sold out pop music to appeal to the working lower class whose futures seemed to be going nowhere. It started in underground New York clubs and gradually began to gain more publicity. It reached its pinnacle of popularity in the U.K. shortly thereafter.
