Sprints

Sprinting is running as fast as you can for a short distance.  It usually consists of the 100, 200, and the 400.  The 100 meter is the shortest of all of the sprints.  It is also one of the easiest.  The 100 meter is your basic sprint race.  It is not too difficult and if you are not good at turning corners or if you are not good at running for a long time then it is perfect for you.  It is basically just running straight and staying in your own line.  That is where it gets difficult because if you don't stay in your own lane then you will not be counted in the race and you will get taken out of the race.  You also are not allowed to wear jewelry.  The ability to run track and do sprints is an event in itself.  The ability to sprint is a very important weapon for runners.

To my left is a picture of the 200 meter.  It goes about half way around the track.  You run with a certain amount of people based on the track size and how many lanes there are.  Normally there are 6-7 people running in one race.  The 200 consists of the same rules as in the 100 meter.  You can not wear jewelry or go in someone else's lane.  Now the 200 meter is more difficult than the 100 meter because what you have to do is you have to make sure that you know how to turn corners.  Once you learn how to turn corners and you race in some of the 200 meters then you can move up after that.  If you are good at corners and you think that the 200 is easy then you can move on to 400 and so on.  This is why you should know how to run corners and learn how to make a turn on a corner before you actually start the 200 meter.

Anything that is after the 100 meter in sprints is more difficult.  There are a few reasons why it is more difficult.  One reason is what I mentioned in the last paragraph how you have to know how to turn corners.  The next reason is that you have to know the technique on turning a corner.  What you have to do is you have to learn is when you are reaching the corner to turn you have to slow down.  A technique is that you have to also make smaller sprints when you are turning a corner.  To learn how to do this you have to slow your feet down and teach them how to do that.

When you start a race you can start in two positions.  You can start in the standing position.  In the standing position you lean over a little and you sort of have to hunch over and look like you are ready to run into someone.  The second position you can start in the kneeling position.  There are two ways to do this.  The first is you can just lean down and have your hands and your feet behind the line.  What you do with your hands is that you use your fingers and thumbs and you make a bridge.  You don’t want to lay your palms down on the track.  Or you can have the starting block.  It basically helps you to start the race.  It gives you a push and helps you increase your speed.  If you want a good start off of the starting block you should keep your legs bent.  No matter which way you are starting you just have to be aware or the gun shot because that is when you have to start and you have to be ready and aware.
