Serena Williams Serena Williams is a former number one, but is now number fourteen because she was off for injury. She has won eight grand slam titles and a gold medal, but she injured her left knee and had to stop playing in 2005. In 2004 she had reached the Wimbledon final and was trying to be the first to win it three times in a row but lost to the 17 year old Maria Sharapova because of her injury. She came back, however, and won this year's Australian Open by clobbering Sharapova in the final. She is known to wear unusual colorful outfits. |

Venus Williams Venus Williams is a former number one and has won five grand slam titles and a gold medal. She played in her first grand slam in the 97 U.S. Open but lost in the finals to Stefe Graf. She has won Wimbledon three times and the U.S. Open twice beating Lindsay Davenport three times Justine Henin, and her sister, Serena. However she has lost to Serena five times in the 2005 French and U.S. Opens and Wimbledon and in the 2006 Australian Open and Wimbledon. She entered the 07 Australian Open, but dropped out because of a recurring wrist injury. |

Maria Sharapova Maria Sharapova in a Russian tennis player and is currently ranked number one it the world. She was only seventeen when she won the first grand slam title at Wimbledon by beating an injured Serena Williams. However, Maria has had some bad luck. Through 2005 she was fighting davenport to keep the number one spot. In 2005 she lost all four of the grand slam tournaments and in 2006 she lost three but finally won the US Open by beating Justine Henin-Hardene. |

Amalie Muresmo Amalie Muresmo is a former number one but is currently ranked number three. She has won two grand slams and a silver medal. She won the 2006 Australian Open and Wimbledon defeating Justine Hinin-Hardenne both times. She got a silver medal instead of gold because she lost to Hinin in the 2004 Olympic Games. She is well known for her powerful one handed backhand and her strong volleys |

Justine Henin-Hardenne Justine Henin is a former number one, but is currently number two. She has won five grand slam titles and a gold medal. In 2003 she beat Kim Clijsters in the French and U.S. Opens. She beat Clijsters again in the 2004 Australian Open. She won the French Open in 2005 by beating Mary Pierce and in 2006 by beating Svetlana Kuznetsova. She earned her gold medal in 2004 by beating Amalie Muresmo. |
