Exposition Park opened in 1890. The first Pirates game played at Exposition Park was on April 22,1891 and the last game was played on June 29, 1909. However all those games took place during the day because the park never had any lights.

Forbes Field was built in 1909 to replace Exposition Park. The first game that took place was on June 30,1909. The largest crowd at Forbes Field was 44,932 on September 23,1970. The final game took place on June 28, 1970 but it wasn’t demolished until the next year in 1971.

Three Rivers Stadium replaced Forbes Field in 1970. Three Rivers was the former home of the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh Steelers. The total cost to build the Stadium was $55 Million. The first game played for the Pirates at Three Rivers was on July 16, 1970. In 1971 Three Rivers was the site of the first World Series night game. The largest crowd that went to see the Pirates play was 87,533 on October 10,1991. The final game took place on October 1, 2000. And that same year it was demolished. |
PNC Park replaced the former home of the Pittsburgh Pirates which was Three Rivers Stadium. They started building PNC Park on April 14, 1999 at a total cost of $216 million and a seating capacity of 38,496. The first game played at PNC Park was on April 9,2001 with a final score of Reds 8, Pirates2. The first pith at PNC Park was pitched by Todd Richie, which was a ball to Barry Larkin. The first Pirate to get a hit at PNC Park was a first inning single by Jason Kendell. Also the first Pirate to homerun at PNC Park was John Vander West on April 11,2001. |
