Tupac was born on June 16, 1971, in New York City. He was name after a powerful king of the Inca Empire in South Africa. Tupacs mother Afeni Shakur raised Tupac as a single parent. Tupacs father (William Garland) was not apart of Tupacs life. After Tupacs sister was born (Sekyiwa) was born Tupacs mother did not have a job. They lived in run down apartments in NYC or they stayed with friends. One think Tupacs mother Afeni always wanted for her children was a good education. She always made them come home right after school and do all their homework and study for every test. Pac “my mom was always on my case about my school work, I wasn’t aloud to go out with my homework was done”. Tupac loved to sing and act so when he was 12 his mother put him in the 127th street ensemble theatre group.InIn 1984, his family relocated to Roland Park Baltimore. There he was excepted into the Baltimore school for the Arts there he studied acting poetry and jazz. In June 1988 Pac and his family moved once again this time to Marin City California where he attended Tamalpais High School. Soon after he moved to California, Due to Tupacs mothers crack addiction Shakur moved into Leila Steinberg's home with his friend Ray Luv at the age of 17. Leila Steinberg acted as a literary mentor to Shakur, who was an avid reader at the time. It has been claimed that Shakur was in fact more well-read, and intellectually well-rounded at the age of 17 than the average student in the first year class of most Ivy League schools. Leila Steinberg a few months after Pac was living with her got him and his group Strictly Dope the concert which lead to him to being signed with Atron Gregory who set him up with Digital Underground. In 1990 he was hired as a back-up dancer and roadie for up-and-coming rap group Digital Underground. |
