Digging is also known as passing.  It is when you play the ball with your forearms.  It is the way that you will play the ball the majority of the time.  You will use the forearm pass to bring the ball up and to the target which is also known as the setter.

When you are ready to pass the ball, you should be in good posture.  Good posture is when your feet are a little wider than shoulder width apart. Next, make sure that your knees are bent and you are off your heels so that you can move to the ball.  Lastly, your arms should be relaxed so that you can go into the overhead pass or the forearm pass.

There are many different ways to build your forearm platform.  The most common way is when you make a fist with your with your left hand.  Then, you take your right thumb and you line it up with your left thumb.  Next, you wrap your right fingers around you’re the fist that you made with your left hand.  Lastly, point your thumbs to the ground causing your forearms to touch from your wrists to your elbows.  This makes a nice even place for the ball to be played off of.

Blocking is a skill used when you are in front court.  The ideal of this is to stop an attack by the other team.  It is easier for taller people to block because they can above and over the net more easily than a shorter person could.  Although, if someone is short but they have a high jump, they could also block.

A good blocker knows the keys to get the job done.  First, make sure that your are parallel to the net.  Also, use your arms to as you were jumping on the trampoline to boost you up into the air.  Once you’re up in the air, penetrate your arms over the net to give the attacker less room to hit.  Then, open your hands so that you cover more area.  Lastly, time your jump to the attacker.  You should wait about a second after the attacker jumps so that you don’t end up back on the ground before the ball is hit.
