Video Games

The first superstar I will list is Pac-Man.  Everyone, gamer or not, has heard of this game.  It was a remarkably simple game concept, with something resembling a pizza with a slice missing eating dots while being chased by ghosts.  This game started a worldwide boom that is still continuing today.  He even had his own TV show at one point.

The second superstar I will list is Mortal Kombat.  This controversial game was actually responsible for the creation of the ESRB.  It had a huge fan base, partly because of its graphic violence.  It still has incarnations today with no sign of stopping.  It also spawned several movies and a TV show.

The third superstar I will list is an obscure game called Zork.  It was part of a now extinct genre called text adventure.  You would just type in the actions you wanted your character to do and the game would tell you what happened.  It enjoyed huge success but only had two games.  The text adventure genre went extinct with the invention of graphics.

The fourth superstar on this list is Sonic the Hedgehog.  This character is one of the most famous of all time, almost more famous than Mario.  He still has games today but sadly they aren’t as good as the classics.  He snared gamers with his blinding sense of speed.  We can only hope that he doesn’t die too soon.

The fifth superstar is the classic game, Mario.  Super Mario to be exact.  This game has been re-released countless times and is credited with saving the gaming industry from death.  While it only took several minutes to complete the main game, there were countless secrets to find.  The secrets could be anything from invisible blocks to hidden areas.

The sixth superstar is arguably the greatest RPG of all time.  The Final Fantasy series accomplished many remarkable things.  It saved Nintendo from bankruptcy not to mention is one of the longest running game series in the world.  It is going on its thirteenth game not to mention innumerable spin-off games.  It was named Final Fantasy because Nintendo needed a truly great hit to save itself, so they devised this game.  No one thought it would work, so it was called Nintendo “Final Fantasy”.

The final superstar is another retro game, Super Metroid.  This game completely revolutionized the gaming industry.  It had an innumerable amount of power-ups you could collect.  It also set the standard of adventure combined with fast-paced action that all Metroid games use today.  This, combined with the sheer fun factor, catapulted the series to super-stardom.
