Vert Skating differs from street skating in so many different ways. The word vert in vert skating stands for vertical because the ramps and the skaters do something vertical. The skaters fly vertically into the air while the ramps point up vertically, hence the name vert skating.

There are different types of vert ramps. They are quarter pipes, half pipes, and bowls. At the peak of all of these different types of ramps is a coping which is a rail that is used to be grinded on. A quarter pipe is a ramp basically that points straight up at the peak. A half pipe is when to quarter pipes are lined up facing each other making something like a U. A bowl is described in its name it usually in ground and a bowls is just a circular ramp. These are the different types of ramps in vert.

The lean was already explained. The back in you simply just go into the ramp backwards and ramp fakey. The 180 in simply is when a person 180's into the vert. Finally the stall in is when your in the middle of a run and did a stall then you just go from the stall into the ramp.

The final way is the jump in. The jump is commonly used to pick up alot of speed and get into the ramp smoothly. The majority of the time this is the method used to get in but some people do still use other strategies. It’s a little bit more advanced.

Once a skater gets good at dropping in they then advance to bigger things in vert like grinds, stalls, and aerials. The grinds are very import. They take place on the coping which is the metal rail on the top of the vert ramp. They same things apply as in street grinding the only difference is that its on top of a vert ramp. Stalls are when a skater just pauses on the copping in a certain formation. Then aerials, they consist of many things like grabs and spins. But the king of aerials is flips its leaves people in awe. These are all of the basic of vert skating.
