Street skating is a classification of skating that got its name from the usual environment that it takes place. Basically the only necessity for street skating is a rail or ledge. These items are used for performing tricks called grinds. They’re are a large variety of tricks that can be performed in street skating but the majority of it is gapping, ramps, and grinds. A grind consist of jumping onto a rail and sliding. When you get into a grind you typically grind on the different plates on your skates.

The plates that are used for grinding are the sole plate, the negative plate, and the h-block. The sole plate is located on the outside of the skate and is used extremely often. The negative plate is located on the inside of the skate and is used very seldomly. The final plate is the h-block located on the frame of the skate. This “h-block is the plate that is used most often.

A plate is a piece of hard plastic on the bottom of the skate. The plates are all on the bottom of the skate. The only plate this really is also on the side of the skate is the backslide plate. This plate is design for grinds that are performed like a backslide where you slide on the side of the skate a little bit.

All of these different plates are used quite frequently in street skating. The two first grinds learned are the frontslide and the soul. A frontslide consists of both skates on the rail or ledge sliding on their h-blocks. The next grind, the soul, is when your back foot is sliding on the sole plate while your front foot is grinding on the h-block

Some of the first grinds that people learn as they begin to skate are the frontslide, the soul, and a freestyle makio. All these grind are easy but not as easy to do as people think. Some medium difficulty grinds are the UFO, royal, mizoue, and acid. The of the harder grinds to do consist of the unity, and the fishbrain.

Once a skater gets good at doing single grinds they then learn to combo and to grind topside. A combo is doing more then one grind while you’re still on the rail. A topside is when your skate is sideways on the rail. Some of the best street skaters today are Brian Aragon and Franky Morales. When people get that good many opportunities open up to them.

Good skaters get more benefits then just the enjoyment. They are able to receive pay from a sponsor. They also get the chance to enter competitions, and different events. It can be more then just fun it can be a job. A goal for the majority of skaters is to become sponsored. When a skater is sponsored they can receive free equipment to.

Street skating seems pretty obviously to be on the streets but It also can take place in other places to. The majority takes place on ledges, handrails, and anything else you can see in the streets. It also happens at parks though despite what most people think. Doing boxes and non-vert ramps at park is still street skating.

Street skating in many peoples opinion is a lot better then vert because of all the different varieties. There is such a large difference between vert skating and street skating its hardly the same at all, but they’re are some similarities between vert and street. The main similarities are the fact that in both of the styles skaters perform grinds. That’s all of the basics of street skating but there always something new in this industry.
