Michigan’s defense is one of the best in the nation.  They picked up a new defensive coordinator named Ron English.  He is a big part of why Michigan’s defense is so good.  They have one of the top running defenses in the country.  On average, they hold opponents to 33 rushing yards a game.
Their front seven might be the best in the NCAA.   It is led by LaMarr Woodley, who led the NCAA in sacks last year.  He is one of four candidates for the 37th Lombardi award, which is awarded to the best lineman.  Woodley is also a candidate for the Ted Hendricks award, which is given to the Nation’s best defensive end.  There is also Rondell Biggs, Terrance Taylor, and Alan Branch.  The defensive line has more than half of our sacks this season.
Michigan also has some great linebackers.  The starters are Shawn Crable, Prescott Burgess, and David Harris.  Their secondary is led by one of the best cornerbacks in the NCAA, Leon Hall.  He is one of the five finalists for the Bronko Nagurski award, which is given to the best defensive player.  Hall also leads Michigan in interceptions and fumbles recovered.

The other cornerbacks are Charles Stewart and Morgan Trent.  Trent and Stewart switch off and both get a good amount of playing time.  Our strong safety is Willis Barringer.  Our starting free safety is Ryan Mundy.  Our Defense has only allowed 175 Points this whole season.  The also sacked opponent’s quarter backs 42 times total this season.
