The OC is the story of three families who go through one problem after the next. These families are the Coens, the Coopers, and the Atwoods. The Coens and the Coopers live in the sun-shiny Orange County, California on Newport Beach. | |

And the Atwood’s live in a poor, ghetto town called Chino. Although the Coens and Coopers lives seem perfect, everything changes drastically when the Atwoods step into their lives.

The Coen family consists of Kirsten, Sandy, and Seth. They are a very wealthy family that leads a happy life. The Cooper family are their good friends but can be their worst enemies at times when it comes to work issues. Julie Cooper is the one who causes most of the families problems, but somehow they always seem to get through these conflicts. Throughout the show, the Coens undergo many changes. |

The Cooper family consists of Marissa, Julie, and Jimmy. The Coopers are not considered a very happy family. This family does not show very much affection for eachother. Julie makes very many problems for her family which later causes a divorce between Jimmy and Julie. Marissa strongly dislikes her mother very very much and considers her family the most dysfunctional family in Newport.

The Atwood family consists of Ryan, his older brother, and his mom. They live in a town called Chino and can’t afford much of anything. Ryan is a bad boy who never seems to learn his lesson. This is not all Ryan’s fault though considering the conditions he was raised in and his mother being an alcoholic. Soon enough though, one wrong move breaks Ryan away from his family, but it all ends up being for the better. |

These three families collide one day all because of another law-breaking decision Ryan makes with his brother. Ryan decides to steal a car one night with his brother and ends up getting caught by the cops. This causes Ryan to be thrown out of the house by his mother and get sent to jail. | |

But when kind-hearted Sandy Cohen comes to the rescue, he decides to take Ryan into his household. Seth Cohen and Ryan soon become best friends, and Marissa and Ryan begin dating. Ryan also hooks Seth up with his life-long crush, Summer Roberts. In a nutshell, Ryan Atwood causes huge changes for many people in Newport. Some for the better, and some for the worse.
