After this performance he picked up a NL Rookie of the Year Award in 2003.  He just earned an All-Star spot this season in Pittsburgh.

C.C. Sabathia is one of the best young pitchers in the MLB. He was drafted to the Cleveland Indians in 2001. He had a 17-5 record and 171 strike outs in his rookie season in 2001. He is a 2–time All-Star also.

Josh Beckett is the best pitcher in the Boston Red Sox pitching staff. He was drafted to the Florida Marlins as their 1^st pick in 1999. His rookie season he had a 2-2 record with 24 strike outs. He kept with the Marlins until 2005 where he had a 15-8 record and 166 strike outs.  In 2006 he was traded to his current team the Red Sox.

Jon Papelborn is the youngest pitchers on the Boston Red Sox pitching staff. He is also one of the most talented. He was drafted to the Red Sox in 2003 as their 4^th round pick. In his first season he had a 3-1 record, 34 strike outs, and a 2.56 ERA.

Next to Mariano Rivera, John Smoltz is one of the best closers in the league. He was drafted in 1985 as the Detroit Tigers 22^nd selection. In his rookie season he had 37 strike outs and a 5.48 ERA. In 1999 Smoltz had 156 strike outs and a 3.19 ERA. Also, is an All-Star pitcher.

Mike Hampton is a really good pitcher. He was drafted in 1990 as the Seattle Mariners as their 6^th pick in the draft. His rookie season he had a 1-3 record with 8 strike outs. In 2001 Hampton had a 14-13 record with 172 strike outs and 1 shut out.

Mark Mulder is one of the St. Louis Cardinal’s best pitchers. He started in 1999 with the Oakland Athletics. There he was plagued by injuries his first season. In his first 5 seasons he played he had an 81-42 record with a 3.92 ERA and 668 strike outs.
