Dontrelle Willis is one of the best young left-handed pitchers in the Major Leagues. He was drafted by the Florida Marlins and had 14 wins and 6 losses that season. After this performance he picked up a NL Rookie of the Year Award in 2003.  He just earned an All-Star spot this season in Pittsburgh.

 

 

Roy Halladay is one of the best pitchers in Toronto Blue Jays history. He was drafted to the Jays in 1999 and had an 8-7 record, a 3.92 earned run average, and 82 strikeouts in his rookie season. In 2003 he won the Cy Young Award (Best Pitcher).

 

 

Mariano Rivera is the best closer in New York Yankees history. He was a free agent pick-up by the Yankees in 1990.He had 51 strikeouts with a 5-3 record and no saves his first year. He improved his totals to 50 saves and 83 strikeouts in 2001. Rivera has had a high total of All-Star games in his career.

 

 

Barry Zito is one of the most dominant pitchers in Major League Baseball and he is still 28. He was the Oakland Athletics top pick in the 1999 draft. His rookie season he had a 17-8 record, a 3.49 earned run average, and 205 strikeouts.

 

 

C.C. Sabathia is one of the best young pitchers in the MLB. He was drafted to the Cleveland Indians in 2001. He had a 17-5 record and 171 strike outs in his rookie season in 2001. He is a 2–time All-Star also.

 

 

Josh Beckett is the best pitcher in the Boston Red Sox pitching staff. He was drafted to the Florida Marlins as their 1st pick in 1999. His rookie season he had a 2-2 record with 24 strike outs. He kept with the Marlins until 2005 where he had a 15-8 record and 166 strike outs.  In 2006 he was traded to his current team the Red Sox.

 
 

Jon Papelborn is the youngest pitchers on the Boston Red Sox pitching staff. He is also one of the most talented. He was drafted to the Red Sox in 2003 as their 4th round pick. In his first season he had a 3-1 record, 34 strike outs, and a 2.56 ERA.

 

 

Next to Mariano Rivera, John Smoltz is one of the best closers in the league. He was drafted in 1985 as the Detroit Tigers 22nd selection. In his rookie season he had 37 strike outs and a 5.48 ERA. In 1999 Smoltz had 156 strike outs and a 3.19 ERA. Also, is an All-Star pitcher.

 
 

Mike Hampton is a really good pitcher. He was drafted in 1990 as the Seattle Mariners as their 6th pick in the draft. His rookie season he had a 1-3 record with 8 strike outs. In 2001 Hampton had a 14-13 record with 172 strike outs and 1 shut out.

 

 

 

Mark Mulder is one of the St. Louis Cardinal’s best pitchers. He started in 1999 with the Oakland Athletics. There he was plagued by injuries his first season. In his first 5 seasons he played he had an 81-42 record with a 3.92 ERA and 668 strike outs.
