In rugby you will need many things to keep yourself safe and also be able to play during the game. The most important object is the ball. The original rugby ball was made of leather, but over the years they have tried new materials for the ball. They have tried pig skin, and even camel skin, but none have worked as well as the leather. Leather is a better material for the rugby ball since it is less slippery. The balls are made from four panels of the leather stitched together to make the ball. Back in the day the rugby balls were much rounder than they are today. The modern shape makes the ball much easier to throw and carry.

A next must for playing rugby is the boot. This is worn on the foot at all times during the game. The longest recorded kick was scored in 1932, when the

ball was kicked 270 ft. Rugby players may wear soccer shoes or special, high-sided shoes to support the ankles. This shoe is mostly used for traction and to boot the ball.

You can also wear a helmet known as headgear. These are only worn in the rugby league. The helmet is used to protect the melon and also your ears. Also protective clothing may be worn if it contains nothing of a rigid nature.

You must be wearing clothing during the entire game or else you will not play. As a team member you can wear your team jerseys, shorts, and undergarments. Players may also wear mouth-guards and shin guards. They must not wear anything that might cause injury to other players. These many things are used to play the game of rugby.
