Electric guitars have a solid body and need an amp to be heard. The sound travels through pickups on the guitar into the amplifier.

There are many different types of electric guitars but this is just a basic design. It is a fender Stratocaster.

This is also a fender guitar, but as you can see this has a different pick guard and different pickups. This causes it to have a different sound than the Stratocaster. This model is a Fender Telecaster.

This is an example of a guitar with no pick guard. Pick guards are not necessary but are used to prevent the pick from damaging the guitar. This is a Gibson ‘60s Neck Les Paul.

Guitars can also be made with a semi- hollow body. This creates a sound usually played in jazz and blues music. This example is an Epiphone Sheraton II.

This is an interesting guitar. This is a Jackson RRS Pro. This type of guitar is called a Flying V because of its shape.

These are a few famous electric guitarists.
