The center fielder also plays a very important position. They must back up the left fielder and right fielder. They must also back up the short-stop and the second baseman, and they must back up second base. They are usually like a leader in the outfield. If a player is stealing second the center fielder must back up the second baseman, which is backing up the short-stop, who is on second base. They are the third line of defense on an overthrown ball to second for the steal. |

The last out fielder is the left fielder. The left fielder is in charge of backing up the center fielder. They are also in charge of backing up the short-stop and the third baseman. During a steal they have to back up the third baseman, especially when somebody is stealing third. It is extremely important that the left fielder backs up third base because if there is an over throw it is very likely that the runner will go home and score. |
