Softball is a game based around hitting and fielding. Hitting, also called “batting”, is when you use a bat to hit a softball. Batting is like the offense of a softball game. Fielding is like the defense of a game. There are two groups of players who do the fielding, the infield and the outfield. The infields and outfields main purpose is to field the ball. They can field ground balls and fly balls. A ground ball is a ball hit to the ground. Any player can field a ground ball by getting it and throwing it to first, second, or third base. A fly ball is a ball hit into the air. Any player can field a ground ball by simply catching it before it hits the ground.
