Two-Three Zone

The two-three zone is the most popular used zone. There are two zones near the free throw line, they both are to a side of the basket. Behind them are two more zones. Players use this zone when they need good coverage to the sides of the basket.

Two-One-Two Zone

This zone has to other zones to the free throw lone, and one on each side of the basket. Behind and in between the two front zones, is a center zone right in front of the basket. The tallest player takes the center zone and guards any other player that enters.

One-Three-One Zone

One zone is the middle area of the backcourt, near the top of the key. Right behind it are three more zones. two of these three zones cover each side of the key, and the third covers the middle. The last zone in this area is directly underneath of the hoop.

Box and One

This is a good combination defense if the other team has a good player, and the rest of the team is average. The box and one blocks out that good player. Four of the teammates play zone, each one taking a corner making a box formation. The fifth player goes man to man or player to player, with the good player, and tries to block him or her from shooting the ball.

Triangle and Two

When the other team has two good shooters we use the triangle and two zone. This is when a player on your team stands near the foul line, and two other players stand to the bottom of the key on the right and left sides of the basket. The last two players guard the good shooters on the other team from shooting or passing the ball.

Combination Defense

This is a combination of more than one type of zones used at the same time such as, a box and one and one-three-one zones. The most popular combination is box and one and triangle and two.
