Baseball has changed tremendously. The players are bigger and stronger. The bats break easily and the balls are cheaper. It is not like it used to be. However, there are some good changes. Players have to wear helmets while they bat, and the gloves are thicker giving more protection for your hand.

Here is an all-star shortstop for the New York Mets, Jose Reyes. He has amazing speed, sticky glove, and can hit like no other. People say that he is the fastest man in the MLB. He should definitely receive the Gold Glove award for shortstop.

Derek Jeter is another great shortstop. He plays for the other team in New York, the Yankees. Derek has led the league in runs and hits several times. He is a solid fielder and a constant hitter. The Yankees usually feel pretty good with him in the field for them. Derek is also a great leader, leading to the Yankees to the playoffs almost every year. |

Mark McGwire is also on the all-time homerun list. He retired in the 2001 season, after hitting 62 homeruns in a single season, setting a new record. Just a few years later, Barry Bonds broke that record by hitting 70 homeruns in that season. He played for the St. Louis Cardinals at first base.

Alfonso Soriano, a former second baseman, now plays Left Field for the Washington Nationals. He was the Gold Glove this year and had 47 homeruns at the plate, being one of the homerun leaders. Soriano is not a big guy, only weighing 180 pounds. It is unbelievable that a person that size can consistently keep up with the “Big Dogs” in the league.
