Baking A Pie

The most important, most delicate part of a pie is its crust. There are three main types of pie crust. They are the single crust, the double crust, and the lattice crust.

To make pie dough you need to combine flour, sugar, and butter. Once you have the dough you need to roll it out. You will use the rolling pin to roll the dough out. Roll it out in all directions until it is 1/8” thick.

Carefully roll the dough onto the rolling pin and slowly unroll it onto the pan. Then, gently press it into the center.

To make a single crust put foil over the crust. Then fill it with dried beans, uncooked rice,  or ceramic or metal pie weights. Cook it in the oven until the crust doesn't stick to the foil.

Remove the weights and foil and fill the crust with creams, fruit fillings, or anything else.

To make double crust  you fill the crust and put another layer or crust over top of it. Then cook it.

The other pie crust is the lattice pie crust.  For this type of pie crust you need to use a knife and cut the dough into strips. Lay the strips over the pie filling and bake it.

You can also decorate the edges of the pie crust. Four types are the rope edge, the crimped edge, the simple fluted edge, and the decorative fluted edge. You can also put different cut out shapes around the edges of the pie crust. That is how you can make your pie crust.
