Atreyu is a Metal core band from Orange County, California, consisting of Alex Varkatzas, Dan Jacobs, Travis Miguel, Marc McKnight and Brandon Saller. The band was formed as "Retribution" and later changed to "Atreyu" after the atreyu character from the movie "A Neverending Story."

The Band released two independent albums before being signed to Victory Records. Following their signing they released their debut albums "Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses." Two singles were released from the album "Ain't Love Grand" and "Lipgloss and Black." Atreyu's second album was released and peaked at number 32. Two singles from this album consist of "Right Side of the Bed" and "The Crimson."

"The Curse" was more polished than "Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses" and Alex's lyrics saw a major improvement. They have also been heard playing "Bleeding Mascara" to start off their shows due to its fast pace. Atreyu's latest release "A Death-Grip on Yesterday" was released on March 28th, 2006. It has a much more mainstream approach than their previous albums and also features Alex exploring different vocals as to screaming all his lyrics. As of August 2006 two singles have been released witch are "Ex's and Oh's" and "The Theft."

Atreyu has preformed on several of their own headlining tours to support their albums. they have also preformed on the 2005 edition of Vans Warped Tour and also on the second stage at the 2004 & 2006 editions of Ozzfest. Atreyu currently has a fall 2006 tour titled "The World Championship Tour" planned with bands such as From First To Last, Chiodos, and Everytime I Die. This headlining tour will also take place in Britain with 36 Crazyfists, Chiodos, and 3 in support.
