The first bicycle was invented in Europe in the late 1700’s. The first bikes ever made were called hobby horses. They were called this because they did not have brakes.  The next type of bike invented was called a Boneshaker. It was called this because it was unsteady and it was hard to pedal. It wasn’t until the late 1800’s when they invent the safety bicycle. It was the same type of bike that we use today.

The most important piece of gear for any rider is the helmet. It is illegal in several states if you don’t wear a helmet. Any type of rider should were pads in case they should fall. Gloves are also good because they give you a better grip. Some people have hydration packs. They are good in hot weather.

Make sure to check your bike before and after usage. You should take time to learn how to fix your bike. Some of these jobs include fixing your tires, adjusting your brakes, tighten any loose bolts, and also to be able to adjust the seat and the handle bars.

The tires for touring bikes are small and skinny compared to Mountain bikes. The tires don’t have that much tread. This is because they don’t need that much traction.

Racing started typing back in the late 1800’s. They started on circular tracks, but moved onto tracks that varied in size and terrain.
