In Mariano’s first year with the Yankees, he posted an 0.17 era. in 52 innings pitched. He was extraordinary in the post season, posting an outstanding 0.38 era. That was the best era. in post season history. Mariano became the best closer in baseball history with 410 saves in his career. |

The third baseman, Alex Rodriguez started his career on the Texas Rangers. The Yankees signed him but he got switched to third base. The guy that originally played third base got a career ending injury so A-rod took his place. In his first season he had a batting average of .286. As the years went by his batting average drastically improved. On A-rod’s 31st birthday, he hit his 450th homerun. He is the youngest player to reach that mark. |

Randy Johnson started his career with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He spent many years with them until the Yankees picked him up. Randy was a ten-time all-star with the Diamondbacks and the Yankees. He set many records between the two teams. The first record that he set was that he struck out 20 batters in one single game. The second record was that he had a 10.86 strikeout average in every nine-inning game. He probably is one of the hardest throwers who ever played the game.

Derek Jeter is probably the most known baseball player today. He is also one of the best today. Derek is tall but he is very slim. In high he was the best player in the country hitting .613. He won an award in high school that was called the Nicest Man award. He won many more awards in the major leagues like the AL rookie of the year, in 2004 he won the AL Gold Glove award, in 2000 he won the all-star MVP, and in 2002 he won an ESPY for the best play of the year. Derek has a career batting average of .436. All around I would consider him the best player of today. |
