Goalie-The goalkeeper is the defender of the goal. He tries to make sure that no balls enter the net. He is the only person that can touch the ball with their hands but they can only touch it inside the penalty area. They wear different shirts than all of the other players to so the other players no who can pick up the ball. To be an effective goalie you need to be able to be tall, jump high, and have good judgment. The goalie has one of the toughest positions on the team.

Defense-The defense tries to keep the opposing team away from the goal. Their primary responsibility is to provide support to the goalkeeper. When they get the ball it is their job to clear it to the side. They need make sure that the other team gets the least amount of shots on goal as possible.

Midfield-The midfield connects the offense to the defense to the offense. They try to push the ball out of their half and get it to the offense. The job of the offense is to get the ball into the opposing team’s half and score. They need to get the ball into open space to do that.

Offense-The job of the offense is to get the ball out of the opposing team’s half and score. They are nearest to the other team’s goal. Offensive players need to be very careful that they are not offside. That can result in a direct free kick for the opposing team.

Making sure that you play the correct position is very important in soccer. If you don’t your team will not be very successful.
