Past & Present of Ballet

Ballet originated in the 15th & 16th century in theaters for the entertainment, called masques. In present ballet is it not as famous as it used to be but people around the world still love to watch and enjoy the grace and beauty of it. Throughout the years dancers and choreographers have created new ballets as well as restage the oldies.

 

 

 

 

Getting ready for class.

Ballet dancers aren’t always in full and lavished outfits. They  have practice time were the attire is different. Girls tent to wear a simple leotard with a skirt over it. Girl can also wear leather , canvas, or satin shoes. For boys the wear is very different. Most boys wear trunks and a tank top. Some boys  may wear tight and socks. Their shoes are usually leather or canvas. For both genders, mostly girls make sure all jewelry is removed. Just some finally touches and your ready for class.

 

 

Starting Ballet.

Starting ballet class can be fun first you find a dance studio to start at. The studio can be any shape or size and usually has bars on the wall for you to hold on to and balance. The floor is mostly made of wood to give you more jump. Before class you may do exercises and stretches. Try warming up your feet before class by doing  some exercises to strengthen them. Make sure if your confused or need help ask the teacher for help. Have fun and practice!

 

 

Positions and poses

In ballet its very important to learn and know the five positions  for your feet and hands. When doing feet positions make sure your holding on to the bar and later on you may let go. First position for your feet  your heels touching the turn each leg out from the hip, moving your toes to the side. Second position you will keep your toes in the same line as the first but your feet are apart. Third position, cross on foot halfway in front of the other. Fourth position can either  be crossed or open. For crossed, place one foot in front of the other with space between. Finally , fifth position which takes strength, your  feet are fully crossed and touching the other firmly.

 

 

Preparing for Performance

The scenery and costumes have been and essential part of the ballet. Remember that the design if the ballet is just important as the music. The costumes may have been worn is previous performances, they must be safe and comfortable. When your trying on the costumes take good care of it. All your hair , headdresses & make-up will make the difference in how you look and dance. Choose something simple that fits your character. If you make yourself feel confident, you performance will be great.
