The Band

In 1996 the four members of Coldplay set off to the collage of UCL, University of London for the same reason, to get into a band and maybe get and education on the side. Three of the four members of Coldplay all met during a friendly game of pool. Soon Chris and Jonny started practicing together and they both like it. Later Guy and Wil started practicing with them to. Soon all four be came best friends and started creating incredible music together. To this day all four members still remain best friends.

Jonny Buckland is the quiet and friendly member of Coldplay. He loves his job as a musician and is rarely seen without a smile on his face. Jonny was born in the small Celtic North Wales town of Mold. He began playing guitar when he was 11 and  listened to many of his fathers records growing up. Jonny’s father was a science teacher and his mother was a music teacher which is how he became interested in music.

Guy Barryman, the bass player in Coldplay and said to be the, “The dark member of Coldplay,” by Melody maker magazine. Born in Scotland his family moved to Kent when he was 12 years old. Guy is the only one in the band not to graduate from the university. He dropped out of school after his second year saying that, “At school, your pushed through this kind of system, to become a professional of some sort. It’s just a system you just don’t have to be a part of.” Also he started playing the bass when he was 12 the same year that he moved. Jonny always liked listening to American Soul which is where most of his influences come from.

Will Champion, the most intense, concerned, and connected with the band. Wil said his biggest contribution to Coldpaly is saying no, or no we’re not doing that. “Wil is the one to impress, everything must pass the Wil test.” The band has named him the “Dad” of the band because of his strictness and capabilities as a drummer. Champion was born and raised in Southampton by his parents who were both co-archeologists. Wil  likes to play basketball and is rarely seen back stage without one, he is also a supporter of his home town soccer team.

Chris Martin is Coldplay’s lead singer, piano player, and rhythm guitarist. He was born in Devon England, raised in a middle class family and went to public school. He is truly the front man, spokesperson, and hart and soul of Coldplay. Chris claims to be bothered by these three things in his life. 1) Women 2) A fear of dieing suddenly and 3) A preoccupation of hair loss. Chris is different from most other front men he never smokes, drinks, or takes drugs. He is often driven to do his best and is extremely cocky and confident that Coldplay will be the best and biggest band ever.

Lead singer Chris Martin said once said, “We don’t scream or play out of tune. If you like a band that is passionate about writing great songs and really meaning it when they sing, then we’ll be your favorite band.” Coldplay writes many of there songs about stuff that means something to them or bothers them. They take pride in there songs and try not to ruin them. Coldplay has had numerous multi million dollar offers from many big companies such as coke, and ABC to use there songs as there main marketing songs. But the band turned all of them down because the said that it would be ruining the songs if they were used like that and that is what they didn’t want.
