In 1998 Coldplay had begun playing small concerts at pubs, restaurants, coffee houses and other small places of London. After Coldplay’s first two singles they got a break and earned a spot to play at the 1999 Glastonbury festival. Soon after this Coldplay had conquered the U. K. with the release of there debut album Parachutes, next it was on for the band to try to conquer the U.S. Coldplay was very nervous to try a tour in the U.S. because the knew that this tour could either make the band or brake it. In 2000-01 the band had succeeded and had an outstanding tour in the states. Some of Coldplay’s concerts in not all of them were selling out in hours. The band still continues for tours in the U.S. regularly. There most recent tour has been the there 2005 tour which they featured there latest album X&Y. |

With help from there collage friend who is now official manager Phil Harvey Coldplay raised $1,500 to recorded there first three song EP Safety, In May 1998 it was recorded and intended for family, friends, and record companies. Now this extremely rare recording can be now be found only on E-bay. By 2000 Coldplay had there first real recording session for parachutes. This was a long painstaking process that almost destroyed the band. Recording was hard for Coldplay and still is, lead singer chris martin says this about his records, “I can’t listen to our records. All I hear is the mistakes we make in the songs.” But for the average listener it is impossible to hear any mistakes.

In 2000 Par Street Studios in Liverpool was the sight where Coldplay would begin to record Parachutes. Once the CD came out is was a massive hit. The CD contains 10 out standing songs including there first single Yellow. Paratchutes was a hit and earned Coldplay one thing they needed most, Air time. It wasn’t long until radio stations in the U.S. started picking up on this album and finding out about Coldplay. Parachutes was an album that gave Coldplay the extra boost they needed and is also one of the best debut albums ever. Along with that Parachutes won Coldplay many awards and went multi-platinum.

In the early winter of 20001 Coldplay began working for there nest album A Rush of Blood to the Head. The members of Coldplay said this about there up coming album, “We wanted to go in and make an album that will be catchy without being slick, poppy without being pop and up lifting without being pompous.” Lead singer Chris Martin said that the album is about your fear of death, love, anger, living in the present, and being in tune with the moment. A Roush of Blood went multi platinum and was still selling 40,000 copies a week a year after it topped the charts. Unlike Parachutes a Rush of Blood took 10 months to record. It also has11 songs and the members of Coldplay still think the album could use work.

In 2005 the band came out with a stunning third album. X&Y consist of 13 amazing songs carefully and delicately mastered. The album is about the unanswered questions in life, and a mixture of optimism and pessimism in its most extreme forms, which is how the got the name X&Y. the album pulled out 737,000 copies in the first week and 8.3 million copies in 2005. X&Y is know the most recent and strongest album Coldplay has made in there 7 years as being a band.

“As much as awards are utter nonsense it is cool to win them.” Chris once said. Along with Coldplay massive success recording many awards have followed. All three of Coldplay’s major recordings have gone multi platinum and all of them have brought back major rewards. Parachutes brought these major Britt awards, best British band, best album, and best British new comer. A Rush Of Blood To The Head won them many awards in 2003-04 such as 2004 Grammy’s for record of the year and an other Grammy for best alternative album. X&Y also brought back a album of the year from the Britt awards. To day Coldplay is still going strong and lead singer Chris Martin promises that Coldplay will soon be a band to change music forever and have the best album ever made. |
