Ballet Originated in the 15th and 16th century.  Through the work of experienced and dedicated teachers the traditions have been passed down from generation to generation.  Ballet today is appreciated all over the world.  They love the light and graceful movements it displays.

When dancing ballet, you need special shoes.  When starting ballet you should use flat satin, leather, or canvas shoes.  They can either be secured by elastic or ribbons.  After several years of dancing ballet your teacher will probably ask you to buy Pointe shoes.  You can secure these with ribbons.
    Tap

Tap is a style of American theatrical dance.  It uses percussive footwork that makes rhythmic patterns in the floor.  Tap was created by combining the elements of American drumming and dancing with elements of European clog and Step dancing.  Through many ups and downs tap has evolved to an American art form.

Tap shoes were not what was originally used to tap.  Aluminum heel and toe taps did not appear until after 1910. Before, dancers used clogs with split wooden soles.  Today, you can get tap shoes in a variety of colors and variations.

Some basic tap steps consist of the stamp, ball-change, hop, brush, tap, heel, shuffle, pick-up, cramp roll, and riff. There are also more difficult moves like a wing.
