Kennywood Park

The Jackrabbit was Kennywood’s first high-speed rollercoaster. The hills and dips were made off of the natural land. In 1920, John Miller came up with the idea. Once it got dark, the ride lit up with many strings of light outlining the coaster. At the top height of the Jackrabbit, you can over-look the lake and other rides around it.

In the 1930’s a new ride was made, it was called the Auto Race. The Auto Race was built by Harry Traver. The ride was electric cars on a track. There were some difficulties with the speed in the beginning, but it in end it worked out. The Auto Race is still around today.

The first ride built after World War II, was called The Looper. The Looper spun you around in circles. This crazy ride was created by Norman Bartett. Allan Hershall Company bought it.  This ride is no longer standing.

The Monster was a ride resembling an octopus. It spun around and went up and down. The ride was black and yellow, and they took it out last year. The location today is different, but the ride is still the same. The Monster also lights up at night.

Kennywood as you may know gets rides every so often. The very first rollercoaster was built by Fred Ingeroll in 1902. In that time, the figure-eight design he made was the latest state of the art. Sadly, it is not still standing. A picture of it is shown to the left. It was called the Toboggan.
