 Maria Yurevna Sharapova is a Russian tennis player.  She is nineteen years old and her birthday is on April 19, 1987.  Maria was born in Nyagan, Siberia, Russia.  She lives in Bradenton, Florida.  She turned pro in the year of 2001. Maria is the world’s highest paid female athlete.  She has won thirteen awards.  Those awards consist of one Grand Slam, one WTA Championship, three Tier I events, seven WTA Tours, and one Wimbledon.  The surfaces that she has won on are eight hard, three grass, and one carpet. 

 

 

Roger Federer:

Roger Federer is a Swiss tennis player.  He is twenty-five years old and his birthday is on August 8, 1981.  Federer was born is Basil, Switzerland and he lives in Oberwil, Switzerland.  He turned pro in 1998.  Roger has won thirty-eight awards, which are, eight Grand Slams, two Tennis Masters Cups, eleven ATP Masters Series, nineteen ATP Tours, four Wimbledon’s, two Australian Opens, and two U.S. Opens.  Roger has won twenty-six awards on hard courts, eight on grass, five on clay, and one on carpet.

Billy Jean Moffitt King is an American tennis player.  She lives in the United States and she is catholic.  She is sixty-three years old and she was born on November 22, 1943 in Long Beach, California.  Her first international recognition was in 1961, when she won the women’s double title at Wimbledon in her first attempt.  The awards that Billy Jean has won are twenty-four Wimbledon’s, one U.S. Championship, one Australian Championship, ten U.S. Opens, and one French Open.  She has won twelve Grand Slam singles titles, fourteen Grand Slam women’s doubles titles, and eleven Grand Slam mixed doubles titles.  She has also won three Grand Slam singles titles in one season.  Some awards and honors are that in 1972 she became the first tennis player to be named in Sports Illustrated sportsman of the year.  In 1975, she also got polled as the most admired women in the world in Seventeen magazine.  She just retired this year (2006).  Billy Jean Moffitt King is a professional tennis legend.

  Martina Navratilova:

Martina Navratilova is Czechoslovakian, but lives in the U.S.  She was born on October 18, 1956, in Prague, Czechoslovakia.  Martina came to the United States in 1975 and became a U.S. citizen in 1981.  During her career she won eighteen Grand Slams singles titles and forty Grand Slams doubles titles (thirty-one women’s doubles and nine mixed doubles).  She won the women’s singles title at Wimbledon a record of nine times.  Her total amount of career titles are 167 singles Grand Slams and 177 for doubles.  She has also won forty-four Wimbledon’s, six Australian Opens, three French Opens, and ten U.S. Opens.  Martina Navratilova is also planning to retire soon this year.

Andre Kirk Agassi is from the U.S.  He was born in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 29, 1970.  He also lives in Las Vegas now and is married to Steffi Graff (a retired tennis pro).  They have 1 son and 1 daughter.  Andre was a pro tennis player for twenty-one years and he retired on September 3, 2006.  Agassi has won every Grand Slam title, the Masters, the Davis Cup, and in 1996, an Olympic gold medal.  He has also won two Wimbledon’s, seven U.S. Opens, ten Australian Opens, and three French Opens.  He has had seventeen wins, and six runner-ups.  He also has eight Grand Slams, seventeen ATP Masters Series, and thirty-three ATP Tours.  He has won forty-six matches on hard courts, seven on clay, six on carpet, and one on grass.  Andre Agassi is a real champion.

 

  Pete Sampras:

Pete Sampras is an American tennis player.  He was born in Washington D.C. on August 12, 1971.  He currently lives in Los Angeles, California.  He turned pro in 1988 and retired in 2003.  He was a pro tennis player for 15 years.  He is considered to be one of the greatest male tennis players of all times.  He has won a record of fourteen Grand Slam men’s singles titles and he has finished the years as #1 on the ATP rankings for six consecutive years from 1993-1998.  He has also won five tennis Masters Cups, eleven ATP Masters Series, and thirty-four ATP Tours.  He has won eighteen U.S. Opens, twenty-eight Wimbledon’s, and four Australian Opens.
