Belle is a very beautiful girl. She is very into books and learning. She is very tired of being called odd. When her father, Maurice, gets taken captive by the Beast she rushes to his aid. She exchanges her father for her own imprisonment. She is forced to live with the Beast for the rest of her life. Soon she sees through the beastly exterior of the Beast and learns to love him for who he is.

The Beast is actually a prince who was put under a curse by an enchantress. He was rude and selfish as a prince. That is why the enchantress cursed him. He and his servants were forced to remain as they were transformed until someone could learn to love the Beast and he could love her in return. |

Gaston is very full of
himself. He is certain that Belle is the one that he is going to marry.
He will not let that go even after Belle refuses his proposal. He even
tries to put Maurice in a crazy house in one of his elaborate plots to
get Belle to say yes. He realizes that Belle is in love with the Beast
and tries to kill him. He ends up getting killed himself.

| Le Fou is Gaston’s stupid side kick. He agrees with everything he says and helps him in his evil schemes. Le Fou is French for the fool. |

These
enchanted objects
are the servants to the Beast. They will remain
objects until the Beast can learn to love. Lumiere is the candlestick.
He is very lively and can’t wait for the spell to be broken. Lumiere is
French for light. Cogsworth is the clock. He is stuffy and fearful of
the Beast. Babette is the feather duster. She is Lumiere’s love
interest. Mrs. Potts is the teapot and her son is Chip the tea cup. They
are very nice. There are many other enchanted objects.

| Maurice is Belle's father. He is an inventor trying to perfect an invention for the town convention. All the townspeople call him crazy and say he is out of his mind. |
