Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Jeff Samardzija is an athlete at the University of Notre Dame who plays wide receiver for the Irish’s football team and he is also a starting pitcher for the baseball team. In football Samardzija set a new Notre Dame single-season record for yards receiving, 1,190 yards, and touchdowns catches, 15 touchdowns. He also is the holder for the point-after and field goal attempts.

Darius Walker is Notre Dame’s starting running back. He rushed for over 1,000 yards in the 2005 season with seven games with 100 plus yards. Darius also had the first touchdown of the 2005 season. Walker set the freshman rushing record at Notre Dame, gaining 786 yards on 185 carries.

Rhema McKnight, wide receiver, was injured in the Notre Dame, Michigan game in 2005. He finished the season with only 5 catches and 1 touchdown. McKnight will be a 5th year senior for the team in the 2006. In the 2004 season, however, McKnight led the team with 42 catches for 610 yards with 3 touchdowns.

Brady Quinn is Notre Dame’s quarterback. He owns every major Notre Dame career and single-season passing record and is on the road to break smaller records. He has the most passing attempts; 1,090; completions; 610; yards; 8,50; yards per game; 230.0; and touch down; 58. In the BYU, Notre Dame Game, Quinn threw a single game record of 6 touchdown passes. Brady Quinn also finished 4th in 2005 Heisman Trophy Award rankings.

Tom Zibikowski is one of Notre Dame’s safeties, but without a doubt the best. Zibikowski also is a veteran boxer who still, with football, competes in Golden Glove competitions. As Notre Dame’s safety and punt returner, he has a total of four touchdowns. He had two interception returns and two punt returns.

Ambrose Wooden is a Notre Dame cornerback. He has started in all eleven games at cornerback in 2005. Wooden had the team’s high in tackles against Washington and Pittsburgh in the ’05 season. Wooden also batted down a few passes in the USC game which resulted in one of Notre dame’s only two loses.

Victor Abiamiri started every game this season for Notre Dame at defensive end. In the 2005 season Abiamiri had a total of 46 tackles, 15 tackles for a loss, 8 sacks, 1 pass deflection 7 quarterback hurries, and one forced fumble. He also played every game in the 2004 season as a sophomore.

Charlie Weis was a Notre Dame graduate in 1978 and the proud owner of four Super Bowl-Championship rings. Three rings with the New England Patriots and one with the New York Giants. Weis as head coach turned things around tremendously. In his first season as head coach, Weis took his team with a 9-2 record to the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. That bowl is one of four Bowl Championship Series games. Weis has the head coaching spot until 2015 and which hopefully until then there will be a couple National Titles won.
