Nirvana’s music fit perfectly with what was happening in Seattle. Seattle was about to be famous for a new kind of music called grunge. Most of their songs were about feelings. Kurt poured his feelings into the songs he wrote. In 1989, Nirvana began a tour of the US and UK. Kurt never liked touring. Being around other people made him uncomfortable.

Nirvana’s popularity became a problem for Kurt. He became miserable when more people started to like him. In May of 1991, Nirvana sighed a record contract. Their second album “Never mind” was selling 400,000 copies a week. “Smells like teen spirit” was the best selling single. Fame and money didn’t solve Kurt’s problems. Kurt’s stomach was really week and on tour he would cough up blood. With his money, he would buy heroin and other illegal drugs to solve his pain.

Kurt refused to get help for his drug addiction. Courtney talked Kurt out of killing him self. He was scared he wouldn’t be a good father. He was addicted to heroin but refused to get any help. This drug made him very angry which caused him to have outbursts. His outbursts drove people away who cared about him. He was killing himself on tour in 1994, Kurt took an overdose. When he came home, his friends and Courtney made Kurt get help. He left two days later and killed himself. |
