The beagle originated as a British breed. In fact Queen Elizabeth 1 owned a pack of pocket beagles. Pocket beagles are a smaller version of a beagle which is less than 10 inches in height. Some of the beagles close relatives are the fox hound, bloodhound, and the basset hound. These dogs are all in the hound group.
