The beagle originated as a British breed.  In fact Queen Elizabeth 1 owned a pack of pocket beagles.  Pocket beagles are a smaller version of a beagle which is less than 10 inches in height.  Some of the beagles close relatives are the fox hound,  bloodhound, and the basset hound.  These dogs are all in the hound group.

The beagle’s average height is 13-16 inches, and usually weighs between 18-30 pounds.  A pocket beagle is a lot smaller and a little less than 10 inches in height.  There is also another beagle called a blue beagle.  The  blue beagle has little spots on it, so if your beagle has some spots on it it might have some blue beagle mixed in it.

Beagles are in the hound group.  They are a breed that depends on it nose.  Beagles were originally bred for hunting purposes.  The beagle's nose also loves food so watch when you are cooking or leave the table that everything is out of your beagles reach.  This makes the beagles willing to do certain tasks, so if you need a fast way to train your beagle use food as the reward.

The beagle’s colors consist of black, brown, and white.  The beagle is a sturdy, compact dog.  The beagle is a very loyal breed and is always willing to learn.  the beagles fur is very soft, and short so that makes it easy to take care of.  Beagles make great family pets.

All though beagles are known as hunting dogs, they love to go outside and play.  After a long playtime a beagle will never refuse a nap.
