  Mel Brooks was born Melvin Kaminsky into a Russian Jewish family on July 28, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York. His career began in the forties while he was in the military. He was a combat engineer in the U.S. army. He started doing comical radio broadcasts that made him know as the “funny” guy.
  After his time in the service was over he started doing stand up comedy. He changed his name to Mel Brooks, to avoid confusion with the musician Max Kaminsky. After doing stand up for a few years, he started doing television. He started writing for the television comedian Sid Caesar. He received a writing Emmy for “The Sid Caesar, Imogen Coca, Carl Reiner, Howard Morris special”. After writing for Caesar, Brooks produced some honorable plays. Ten helped develop the popular 1965-1970 sitcom “Get Smart”. After doing stand-up and television Brooks started doing movies. His first film “The Critic” won an Oscar. His first major film won another Oscar, “The Producers”. In this film he discovered Gene Wilder, who would later star in Brooks’ films such as “Blazing Saddles” and “Young Frankenstein”.
  Brooks married actress Anne Barcroft, in 1964.
  Throughout his career Brooks made such classics as “ The Twelve Chairs”, “ Blazing Saddles”, “ Young Frankenstein”, “ Silent Movie”, “High Anxiety”, “ History of the World Part 1”
