  This is the strongest and the most well known of the Greek gods. He is the ruler of the Olympian gods and he is god of the sky. Zeus is the king of Mount Olympus. He uses lighting bolts as a tool to help him protect his home Mt. Olympus. Zeus is married to the goddess Hera. Zeus is also known as Jupiter.

 

Hermes is Zeus’s son. He is the messenger god. He is responsible for sending and receiving messages for Zeus. He is also known for playing tricks and jokes around the other gods and goddesses. He carries a staff and has a winged hat and sandals. Hermes’s winged sandal is sometimes used to symbolize speed and agility. Hermes is also known as Mercury.

 

 

Ares is the god of war. He is also the son of Zeus and Hera. Ares is known for his bad temper and brutal fighting obsession. He is in competition with the goddess Athena for they are both gods of war and battle. When seeing a picture or painting of Ares he always has a twisted grin or clenched teeth showing his strength and brutality. Ares is also known as Mars.

 

 

Hades is the brother of Zeus and the ruler of the underworld. He is married to Persephone, the daughter of Demeter. He is in control of the souls of the dead and his underground palace. Guarding the home of Hades is a tree headed dog named Cerberus. Hades is proud to have Cerberus and sees him as a pet. Hades is also known as Pluto.

 

 

Apollo is yet another one of Zeus’s sons. He is the god of light, truth, and the sun. Apollo sees all as he glides across the sky in his glowing chariot driven by golden horses. Most of the other gods look up to Apollo because he knows everything that happens around the world and is the one to go to when something or someone has wondered off to another part of the world.

 

 

Hephaestus is also Zeus’s son. He is the husband of Aphrodite. Hephaestus is the god of fire and metal work. It is said that a volcanic eruption is when Hephaestus is angry or hard at work on making tools or smelting weapons. Hephaestus is also known as Vulcan.

 

Cupid is the son of Aphrodite. He is the god of love. Cupid is used as a symbol on Valentines Day he floats around looking for unexpecting people and fires a special arrow at them making them fall in love. Cupid is also known as Eros.

 

 

The Titans were the first children of Mother Earth and they were the first gods. Taller than the mountains she created to serve them as thrones. Earth and Sky were proud of them. There were six Titans, six glorious gods and they had six sisters whom they took for their wives. This was believed in Greek mythology despite how screwed up it is.
