A setter has the responsibility for running the offense. The setter usually gets the 2nd contact and uses his hand to "set" the ball to a hitter. The must be able to put the ball in a certain spot so their hitter's have the best chance of attacking the ball and getting the kill. The setter must be very accurate with their sets and also must be very quick.

Hitting is one of the most exciting parts of volleyball. Hitting is also known as spiking or attacking. It is usually the 3rd contact. To hit most people take an "approach", jump and meet and hit the ball in kid air over the net to the other teams side. There are many different hits. Such as a one ball, four ball, pike, and thirty- two. If a hitter strikes the ball to the other side and pounds it off the floor, it is known as a kill. Most hitters are big, strong, and can jump high so they can hit the ball straight down.

Back row specialists are players that play in the back row. These players are usually some of the top passers on your team. Usually back row players are set to a certain defensive position and bring up the ball or dig the ball from a hit on the opposing team. Usually back row players are very quick and are not afraid of hitting the deck to make a pass.

Blocking is the main part of a defense. It is because if the blocker's block the section they are assigned then they can take a part of the court away from the other team's hitter. Usually if it is an outside hit then outside blocker blocks line and the middle blocker blocks cross- court. In the middle, if it is possible, triple blocks are the best, but usually it is to difficult so most teams leave the blocker one on one with the opposing hitter. Most teams form their defenses around blockers. Most blockers are tall, can jump high, and have big arms. and hands.
